Knife

Designed for a charity project, the knife features a soft, fish-like handle in durable Pyrenean boxwood. Subtle metal dots mark its function, with matching grinders completing the set.

KNIFE VERSUS SPOONS

Pleasure is part of our studio’s DNA — especially when it comes to cooking and eating. We have always loved the generosity and softness of spoons, yet we became intrigued by how fundamentally different knives are. They accompany every stage of food: from preparation to cooking to the moment of sharing. They are not only tools, but objects charged with a sense of magic, ritual and desire. This project began as a way to explore that duality — the quiet precision of a blade, and the deeper, ancient presence a knife holds in the hand.

We shaped the handle with a gentle, fish-like volume that enhances the smooth agility of the blade. For the material, we selected Buxus sempervirens — a local wood from the Pyrenees once used for ritual animist objects, and today for flutes, chess pieces, and spoons. Exceptionally dense, naturally resistant to water and oil, and beautifully silky to the touch, it brings both durability and sensuality to the experience. The functional metal elements are reimagined as a subtle rhythm of tiny dots — an ornament that highlights the function rather than concealing it. To complete the experience around the table, we designed matching salt and pepper grinders, extending the same pleasure into every gesture.

THE TABLE KNIFE PROJECT

The Table Knife Project was a collaborative project for a cause: it has brought together Florentine Kitchen Knives, from Barcelona, with 28 local design studios to create 56 unique table knives. FKK gave each one of the designers the same blank table knife blade and encouraged them to do something that would reflect their personal vision of the object, using the materials in an eco-friendly and socially responsible way.

The purpose of this initiative is to raise funds through the sale of the knives for the El Llindar Foundation, a local organization that supports disadvantaged young people, developing their skills to work in the hospitality industry.
