Christmas Greetings

A RITUAL

Why do we love Christmas? Not for its religious meaning, but for the powerful symbolism it carries—symbols older than Christianity, spanding across religions, or even outside of them, connecting to our shared humanity. It may be one of the last rituals in society that so many people still care about and participate in together.
For us, it is a special moment: a time to reflect on the year past, a pause between years, a chance to sense, think, and connect past, present, and future.

Over the years, creating the Christmas card has become a cherished ritual in its own right. It’s a creative exercise approached differently from our commissioned projects, resulting in something that is both a message and an object—a small gift for our friends and clients. We’re delighted to hear that some even collect the cards! :) Merry Christmas!

2025 COMMON GROUND

In a moment shaped by polarization and isolated bubbles, we’re reflecting on the power of connection and community. On the common ground we all build together. From a literal foundation—the Earth beneath our feet—to the values, experiences, and moments we share and love.

Designed at Phantasia Studio, this year’s Christmas card explores the fluidity of connection—organic, ever-changing, and full of possibility. Its form invites interpretation: a landscape shaped by time, a river carving its path across a map, or a seed holding the promise of new growth.
A reminder that meaning shifts with each viewer— but, hopefully, on a common ground.

2024 A PARENTESIT

This was a good year for us, but also a year that was marked by many difficult moments in our world. More than ever, we feel the need for a pause—a restorative moment that is both relaxing and enriching.

Designed by Ingrid Picanyol Studio, this year’s card literally opens like a door in the shape of a parenthesis, transforming the graphic into a three-dimensional object. The text poetically explores the journey a break can bring, and how new ideas, creativity, and feelings can emerge when we stop, listen, and reflect.

2023 PEACE, NOT WAR

Christmas can be the happiest moment of connection and joy—or the saddest, when life stands in stark contrast to what it represents: wonder, hope, and peace. A reminder of the beauty found in balance, in harmony with nature, with others, and with oneself.

Christmas also reminds us how precious—and how fragile—this balance is, encouraging us to carry its spirit throughout the year. Wonder, hope, and peace don’t happen on their own; they need to be nurtured. Here’s to life and all the joys it brings!

2022 LIFE IS THE TRANSITIONS

Everything is in transformation. One year transitions into the next; the world we know becomes something new. The true challenge is evolving the ways we think—shifting from fossilized, passive, linear patterns toward something active, organic, and conscious.

Inspired by the soft, blurred glow of Christmas lights—the night, the tree, candlelight, red apples—this year’s card celebrates the beauty found in moments that are shifting and unresolved. A gentle reminder that life itself is fluid, uncertain, and full of possibility.

2021 SEEDS

Winter is a natural and necessary counterweight to the sometimes hectic activity of summer. It is a time to rest and take stock, to review the past year and anticipate and plan the new one. Every inhalation is followed by an exhalation, and without it the respiratory circle would not be complete.
After these challenging Covid years, we find ourselves thinking of seeds. Seeds already hold tomorrow. They trigger a sense of daydreaming and open up new possibilities for us.

They create a bridge to the future, a future that is easy to imagine. We know that whatever else may happen, at least the grass, lettuce and marigolds will grow. Pests and bad weather have to be dealt with, but if one of the seeds fails to germinate, others will certainly thrive. We are constantly building on an unknown future, but when things conspire against us and life seems to get out of hand, it is difficult to make dreams come true. A garden is a safe place to start again.

2020 TU FUTURO

The Covid year brought unfamiliar challenges, but it also revealed something powerful: transformation happens when we act together. We learned how much can truly change when collective care, creativity, and effort align toward a shared purpose.

Future is not just something that happens - it is something we create.
This year’s Christmas card reflects on turning “future fatigue” into a future we’re excited to live in. A reminder that what comes next depends on the choices we make today—together.

2019 NEW BEGINNINGS

A change in time is always a new beginning. Lievore Altherr evolves into Lievore + Altherr Désile Park — long-time collaborators becoming new partners. A fresh chapter opens, built on shared vision, trust, and creative growth.

New beginnings are often symbolized by light—an almost universal expression of hope that spans cultures and traditions. Our animation depicts two stars merging in the night sky, forming something new together. Happy Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Year — or however you choose to celebrate the ritual of time and renewal.

2018 BETTER TOGETHER

Celebrations, whether with family or in the studio, invite us to connect in a different way. We set the table and ourselves in honor of the moment, bring our best energy, laugh, enjoy, and share. These rituals are vital—they help us build bonds and understand each other more deeply.

For this year’s Christmas card, we collaborated once again with our longtime collaborator Claudio Mauriño, who beautifully captures the joy
of these moments—a table left after celebration, full of warmth and shared experience. Here’s to being better together!

2017 CHRISTMAS COLORS

Red, white, gold, and green are more than festive colors—they carry a rich symbolism that immediately evokes the spirit of Christmas. These shades remind us of tradition, warmth, and the shared joy of celebration, creating a visual language that connects past and present.

For this year’s card, we worked with Claudia Mauriño, who played with repetition and rhythm in both shape and color. Pomegranates, Christmas biscuits, and glass baubles are arranged in a delicate balance, capturing the playful, joyful, and fleeting moments of the season.
A celebration of color, texture, and the little details that make the holidays memorable.

2016 ADD YOUR LIGHT

Light becomes visible—and all the more precious—when in contrast to the darkness. It guides us, uplifts us, and warms us, reminding us of hope and connection in quiet moments.

In this year’s Christmas card, Claudio Mauriño’s photo animation adds a candle to a small cluster. Playful and simple, it shows how each individual can join together to make a better whole.

2013 THE FIRST ONE

This was the year we began thinking about a printed Christmas greeting—a small way to give something back to our friends and clients.

Designed by Laura Armet, the greeting card takes the form of a poster. The triangle represents the three partners and doubles as a symbolic Christmas tree, rendered in festive gold.
