Catifa New Edition × Arper

THE ORIGINAL
Designed in 1999 by our former studio Lievore Altherr Molina, Catifa began with a simple idea: an undulating form to support the body. Over time, this intuitive gesture evolved into a versatile seating system spanning chairs, lounges, stools, ottomans, and benches. Across seven collections, Catifa has expanded in finish and form while preserving its essential identity.
The original bicolor version creates a visual dialogue between table and chairs, shaping a unified interior space. White interiors foster openness and exchange, while colored exteriors frame and protect collaboration. In linear arrangements, calm front views contrast with vibrant backs, forming a dynamic, engaging surface.

NEW TIMES, NEW RESPONSES
Design evolves in response to new needs and contexts, since each generation shapes its own aesthetic language. We saw the new finishes as an opportunity not simply to update the collection, but to sharpen the identity of each variant. Through nuanced choices, we articulated distinct characters for each version, expressing its role with greater clarity and intention.
Having grown into a broad and articulated system, the new editions became also an opportunity to present the entire Catifa family and its history through a dedicated brochure, designed by 2x4.

CATIFA 53 NEW EDITION
Catifa 53 was the original series that started it all. In 2016, we reimagined it with a matte plastic or leather finish, bringing a refined and contemporary character to its essential form. Through this renewed materiality, Catifa 53 found a new sense of warmth and sophistication.
The new color palette centers on materiality, with ivory, gold, sand, caramel, café, anthracite, and black in a matte plastic finish, alongside a 3D wood option. A new natural tanned leather version introduces effortless sophistication. Optional loose seat cushions add tactile depth through layered textures and tones.

CATIFA 46 NEW EDITION
Originally designed in 2004 for contract and big space use, Catifa 46 is the little sister of Catifa 53. In 2016, it was presented in an updated range of a fresh, soft yet complex palette: rosé, petrol, yellow, ivory and turtledove grey.
It keeps the original glossy back and can be paired or contrasted with customizable seat pad, or interpreted as a monochrome statement. Selections can be further amplified or muted by fabric texture, shell finish and colored base options.

CATIFA SENSIT MATERIAL SUGGESTION
The older brother of Catifa 53, Catifa Sensit offers a supportive frame
for work or home, combining solid comfort with an elegant presence.
Always upholstered, it delivers the full functionality of a task chair with a refined character.
Armrests and a flat trestle base express strength, stability, and graphic clarity, while curved lines soften the silhouette through color and texture choices. A higher reclining backrest extends its role beyond the boardroom, inviting longer, lounge-oriented use.
